HALTON HOUSING

Project Info

PROJECT: Halton Housing HQ, Widnes

CLIENT: Russells Construction

MARKET SECTOR: Commercial

PRODUCTS USED: Technal Curtain Walling, Windows & Doors

RED PROJECT VALUE: £300k

Requirement

The building was designed with a brick clad steel frame – our curtain walling needed to be developed to provide large glazed recesses in order to maximise the impact of natural light, whilst utilising brise soleil to prevent glare.

Background

The architectural concept of this building was extremely interesting and sympathetic to the area – designed with a unique roof layout to pay homage to the chimneys of a nearby landmark, Fiddlers Ferry Power Station.

The new housing association headquarters was required to allow all the staff to relocate from 2 previous offices and merge under one roof, also giving better accessibility to major highways.

Project Comment

When appointing the right glazing subcontractor for a project, I look for good quality, safety conscious operatives, and the ability to deliver within budget.
Our previous project at Halton went well - it arrived on time and comfortably within budget. The aftercare I received was good and any issues were dealt with swiftly.
I was very pleased with the service provided on the project at Halton. This positive experience was a factor when awarding RED Systems a much larger and ongoing project at St Peter’s Square.

Design

Of particular importance to the design was the incorporation of brise soleil solar shading. The horizontal blade design was designed in conjunction with our supply chain partners to minimise the impact of solar glare whilst allowing the building interior to remain light and airy. The finished result gives a striking visual impact and provides a practical benefit to all users of the housing trust office facilities.
