RED were tasked with providing Curtain Walling, windows and louvres to this significant development. The scheme included a 17 storey tower block, a 13 storey tower block, 2 blocks of social housing and 4 storeys of commercial space.

Background

Located at Commercial Road, London E1, “Whitechapel” is a mixed-use complex. It comprises of a new three storey podium with an eastern 17 storey residential tower and a western residential tower providing in total 142 serviced apart-hotel accommodation units. The main part of the podium also includes an international education facility, leisure, office and live/work units above a basement car park.

Project Comment

This is the 3rd contract RED have undertaken for us – great design development on the back of poor information from the architect. To a tight timescale RED delivered and met our programme which was great because the facility had already been sold.

Design

The design element of this project was extremely interesting, and one that the RED design team had to be very proactive in putting forward suitable proposals that would meet the performance requirements. The acoustics and glazing specification were critical as well as the interface details with the cladding system. The ultimate result was testament to the hard work during the design process.
