I am unsure whether my relationship has ended - what are my options?

The fact that you have contacted us does not spell the end of your relationship. If you are unsure, Milwyn Jenkins & Jenkins can advise you of your options and give details of organisations to help you to arrive at a decision. The first thing to do is to contact us to discuss all of your options. These may include saving your relationship or, if married, a separation, judicial separation or divorce and resolution of issues arising (property and financial issues, arrangements for the children just to name a few). Similarly, these are the sort of issues that need to be addressed if you are in a civil partnership. If you are unmarried, although there are no legal formalities for ending the relationship, you may need advice on matters such as financial provision for children, residence, contact and parental responsibility, ownership and occupation of property.

What type of matters can Milwyn Jenkins & Jenkins assist me with?

Divorce for married couples and civil partners

Children matters including residence, contact and parental responbility orders

Child care matters

Financial settlements and disputes

Pre and post nuptial agreements

Cohabitation Disputes and Agreements

Mediation

I am unmarried, does that make a difference?

Unmarried couples have different legal rights and responsibilities in relation to property, finances and children to their married counterparts. It is important for you to take specialist legal advice on such a complex area of law. On separation, you may need legal advice on issues regarding your children. All mothers automatically acquire parental responsibility as do all married fathers. Did you know that, for all children born after 1 December 2003, a father who jointly registers with the mother the child`s birth, will also automatically acquire parental responsibility even if they are unmarried?

What if there is domestic abuse?

This is a distressingly common situation and one that needs to be addressed urgently. These include making contact with the police who have dedicated domestic abuse units and are required to respond immediately to requests for assistance.
