Romantic locations abound in Devon. Whether it's a cosy self catering hideaway or a top
class hotel suite you will always remember this very special first holiday as Mr. and Mrs.
What's it to be ? A bath for two, or a bath each, side by side for that romantic honeymoon treat.
Top of the league in hotel accommodation is the utterly wonderful Gidleigh Park Hotel near to Chagford.
Imagine spending your honeymoon lounging in this luxurious marble bath with a double shower to your right, plus
your own steam room and sauna, whilst the view down the valley from the window balcony is of wonderful leafy Dartmoor? Gidleigh staff will go out for their way to ensure your romantic stay is perfect.
I am always hugely impressed by the hotel's high standards. If you fancy taking dinner in your room, then the attentive staff will sort that without a murmer. Take a look at their website where you can take a virtual tour and imagine yourself there. When our girls were younger, they used to babysit at GPH and one place they used to marvel at is the thatched pavillion that overlooks the croquet lawn, within the grounds. This pretty little hideaway is a 2 minute walk from the hotel and because of the distance, they don't offer room service, so you are completely left to your own devices. The sweet little pavillion has a sitting room with space to sit at a table, or you could wander out on to your own verandah with your pre dinner drinks, ready to walk up to the hotel whenever it suits you to eat. Furnished up to Gidleigh Park's high class standards.
Celebratory champagne can be on ice waiting for you to arrive!
Small but cosy self catering unit with a massive view. A cute hideaway with deer through the window and wildlife all around. Wendy and Dennis are horse friendly folk, so livery is available. This is a place for just 2 adults with a very definite non smoking rule. The living room and bedroom are both up steep stairs, so NO CHILDREN and it would be difficult for the less able bodied. The entrance drive is not smooth, but the let is right on the Two Moors Way and the Mariner's Way so it is an excellent base for keen walkers. Dogs by arrangement with the owners. You will need to discuss your dog's nature before you come. Friendly owners will make sure you enjoy.

I took these photos on a visit to this sweetest of all honeymoon cottages, at a small hamlet about 2 miles distant from Chagford. All super contemporary. Sitting room and kitchen below, one giant bedroom with kingsize bed above, fully equipped with utterly fabulous bathroom which has a walk in shower large enough for 2 and a bath with centre taps like you see in the movies - just perfect for honeymooner bathers to soak in together. This property will give you a memorable start to married life together.

If you fancy a romantic honeymoon in a four poster bed, then give Sue a ring and book in. The 4 poster room is in it's own corridor, completely private. There is also a fine panelled bedroom at the front of the house with a private bathroom, which Rob and I booked in 2006 for a few days. Most impressive decor. We loved it. Both rooms are perfect for honeymoon stays.

Bed and breakfast at Bagtor is £40 per person for 1 night and £38 per person for 2 nights.
You won't find a more quaint honeymoon spot than Penny Steadman's chocolate box thatched cottage for a romantic honeymoon. Although she has 3 rooms in total, if the main bedroom is booked (your's) she will not book the other two. So you will be exclusive guests and have the guest lounge all to yourselves. It's very much Country Living style (the magazine I mean !) Quality decor and totally country. Walk from the cottage into very quiet country lanes, with pheasants, sheep, harvest, birdsong. Let Penny advise you on good places to eat. Enjoy !!

One of the rooms at Greenbank has it's own front door and entrance. I love it. Comes with your own modern shower room, tv, tea tray, books and is perfectly placed for great walks over the Moor. On the lower slopes of Meldon with wonderful views. Lovely home with quality furnishings, much loved pet parrot, whippets, cat and charming family. Large garden to relax in and good local eating places - ask Fru !!

This is an excellent honeymoon location for food fans, as the restaurant has a good repution. (Read my food review) There are 2 good ensuite rooms on offer, and both overlook a sweet country bowling green. Straight out of the door for hand in hand walks, especially over the common and up to Meldon Hill where you can do the Kathy and Heathcliffe thing over a truly fabulous view. Come back to No. 22 and curl up in the comfy room or check out one of Chagford's tearooms.

All very swish... this bed and breakfast is "lush". Between Chagford and Fernworthy Reservoir. Stunning detached chalet in the grounds of the main house with most impressive giant wetroom and sauna. Very fabulous indeed. Superb garden with lake and stream. Quiet, peaceful. Eat outdoors on your own decking. Top notch. I loved it.

The minute I walked into this studio cottage in the heart of Dartmoor I thought 'honeymooners would love this'. It's wood lined, cute and cosy. It has it's own private garden with seating area and great views of the Moor. The large bathroom has a rolled top bath with middle placed taps - just right for a twosome soak. A Rayburn keeps the whole space warm and aired. Do read my review to see lots of good pictures. (Orange button)

Self contained annexe decorated in Shaker style . Sleeps 2. Guests are welcome in the very pretty garden, French windows opening onto a verandah for alfresco meals and fresh produce for you to pick. On cooler evenings put a match to the wood burning stove and snuggle up together. Good food pubs nearby. Lots of walking hereabouts. Off road parking. All four double bedrooms at Kilbury are super. 2 of them in the main house and 2 of them in a separate annexe. None of them next door to each other, so all have a sense of privacy. Julia has put a great deal of thought into making each one special. If you are staying here on honeymoon, then take a steam train trip on the romantic South Devon railway which runs along the bottom of the hill to add yet one more wonderful memory to your memory bank. Curl up in front of a real fire at this sleeps two cottage near to Brentor. Walk up to the church as the sun sets because the view is awesome and you will be able to take some very special views of yourselves. Private garden at the rear of the property. It's not in the heart of Dartmoor, but it is in the most pleasant of farming fields and completely off the beaten track. Honeymooners with a dog? That's ok too.

Rob and I stayed here for a spoiling birthday treat. It was very special. We loved the warm outdoor pool.
5 double/twin suites, every one of them upmarket and smashing. Difficult to choose one to recommend but we did take a look at the little chalet type 'Laughing waters' which is in it's own garden with stream. Very pretty, lots of wood, a porch type decking and the cutest gypsy caravan at the side - just for you. Nothing to stop you taking the patchwork quilt into the caravan for an evening to remember. Also enjoy a leisurely dip in the heated outdoor pool. We had it all to ourselves - bliss.
